About Me

Educational History:

I am a graduate of Martin High School.  I attended Laredo Community College where I obtained an Associate in Arts degree.  I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in Spanish from Laredo State University, now known as TAMIU.  I obtained a Texas teaching certification grades 1-8th in English/Reading, followed by a Bilingual certification.  I am certified in Gifted and Talented education.

Current Position:

I have been teaching at Killam Elementary since it opened for the first time.  I have been with  United ISD for 19 years.  I am currently teaching fifth grade Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies.

Previous Position:

I started teaching at Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1988, where I taught first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade Reading and Language Arts, as well as Fine Arts.   I taught at this school for ten years.  I then moved to Trautmann Elementary, where I taught fifth grade for six years.  Then I moved to Clark Elementary, where I taught fifth grade for 5 years.  I have been teaching Reading/ Language Arts at Killam Elementary for 8 years.  I enjoy the challenge of teaching STAAR tested subjects.  I love what I do, since every day is different.

Family Information:

I am happily married to my best friend, Raul Salazar, for 32 wonderful years.  I have four amazing children:   Raul Zachary, 31 years old,  has a Master's in English degree and is currently an educator who teaches English college courses at Cantu Early College. Katherine Abigail, 24 years old, is a research technician at John Hopkins University.  She has researched and proposed multi-dimensional approaches to human consciousness in the context of biomedicine. I also have a grandaughter whose name is Zarabella Catalina Gonzalez.

Personal Information:

My hobbies include reading, writing, coloring, and getting involved in clubs and activities involving children.  I have been the cheer sponsor for eight years at Killam Elem.  I was also the Student Council sponsor for two years at Killam Elementary.  I have coached third and Fourth grade basketball teams.

The cheer team, under my sponsorship, won Grand Champs, Top School, 2nd place at Nationals, and obtained several 1st place positions.
